Traveller Counselling Service: Accounts Clerk (Part Time)


Part-Time Accounts Clerk (5 hours p.w.) The Organisation The Traveller Counselling Service (TCS) was set up in 2008 to provide one-to-one counselling and therapeutic support to members of the Traveller community. Overseen by a Board of Management, the service is run by Travellers for Travellers, and works from a culturally inclusive framework which respects Traveller culture, identity, values, and norms. The service has now expanded to include Community Development Work, Advocacy and Training, and offers counselling in person, by phone and online, nationwide. The TCS is currently recruiting for an experienced part-time Accounts Clerk (5 hours p.w.). Reporting to the Managing Director and the Operations Manager, and working with the Executive Administrator, the Accounts Clerk will be responsible for the efficient weekly payment of 7 members of staff, plus other duties related to the efficient financial running of the Organisation. The role is 5 hours per week, based in our office in Phibsborough. This role does not have the option to work from home. We particularly welcome applicants to this role from the Traveller community.   • An understanding of the impact of social exclusion, racism, poverty, etc. on Traveller mental health;

  • The ability to work from a culturally inclusive framework;

  • Respect and empathy for the Traveller community, clients and counsellors;

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;

  • Good judgement;

  • High degree of personal integrity;

  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative, and to plan and set goals;

  • Understanding of and a commitment to the promotion of equal opportunities and cultural diversity (anti-racism stance).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and efficient payment of all staff members each week;

  • Calculation and adjustment of wages as required;

  • Ensure payment of revenue on a monthly basis;

  • Accurate record-keeping of all payments in and out of the service;

  • Invoicing, petty cash, Visa management, account balancing, bills and general payments;

  • Liaise with auditors as required and respond to their queries;

  • Undertake any other occasional duties as determined by The Traveller Counselling Service.

Experience

  • Previous experience as an accounts clerk or in similar financial administration essential;

  • Previous work experience with Travellers or another marginalised group an advantage.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to develop good working relationships;

  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills;

  • Proficient IT skills (Big Red Book, Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel);

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written;

  • Problem-solving skills;

  • Ability to plan and prioritise own work;

  • Report-writing ability.

This is a 1-year fixed term contract with continuation dependent on funding, with a three -month probationary period. The role is based in the Dublin area and is office-based. The position is part-time, at 5 hours per week, with the possibility of expansion in the future. The salary will be €36,400, pro rata based on a 35 hour working week (€20 per hour).
