Accountable & Reports to: Supervisor/Manager Key Reasonability: To provide a service to Clients that enables them to lead as independent a lifestyle as possible. Responsibilities in General: Carers have a responsibility to protect & promote Clients rights by:
Treating them with dignity, sensitivity & respect
Making time to listen, talk to & get to know the Client
Making sure that Clients know DHHCS policies & procedures
Encouraging Clients to have an input into care provision
Helping Clients to be safe, happy.
Encouraging Clients to express feelings, fears & experiences openly
Where applicable respecting Client’s privacy in bathrooms or in relation to personal care in general
Dressing & undressing/preparing the Client for trips out
Washing/bathing/showering/grooming/cleaning teeth
Hair care (washing/brushing)
Toileting & all aspects of personal hygiene
Continence management
Getting in & out of bed
Assisting with the use of Aids to Daily Living/Rehabilitation Aids, as required
Helping with rehabilitation programmes, as prescribed by Healthcare professionals
Always responding to complaints or allegations
Helping Client realise the difference between confidentiality & secrecy
Being sensitive to the fact that some Client are more vulnerable & may have special needs
Preparation of snacks & meals according to the Client’s likes/dislikes
Assisting with feeding, as required
General cleaning duties, to include cleaning/dusting/vacuuming/polishing
Bed‐making, Laundry/Ironing as required
Shopping, and the preparation of shopping lists
Essential Requirements:
To participate in training as required
To act in accordance with DHHCS policies & procedures; and relevant legislation
To maintain accurate, concise and timely records contained in the Clients Home Care File
To participate in, when requested, Client, Staff, Team and Quality Management Review Meetings as directed by the Supervisor/Manager
To report back to the Supervisor/Manager on any aspect of the Client’s care which you feel warrants investigation or urgent action
Empathy with Carers and those receiving care
Excellent communication skills and use of the English language
Good listening skills and sensitivity in giving emotional support
A helpful manner and ability to communicate with people in a variety of situations and from different backgrounds
Excellent work ethos
Ability to give physical and personal care e.g. toileting, washing and feeding
Willingness to help with domestic duties, including cooking if required in the Care Plan
Ability to build relationships with families/individuals and help them to maintain their social links were necessary
Ability to work in a team and report back to a senior member of the care team any observations affecting the family/individual’s circumstances
Respect for confidentiality at all times
Ability to work alone, use initiative and be mindful of health and safety at all times
Good general health, willing to undergo medical if required
A willingness to undertake Garda Vetting
