Healthcare Assistant / Carer
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part Time Carer to join our Community.
Applicants are required to have a FETAC/QQI Level 5 qualification or an equivalent healthcare qualification and experience working as a Carer. All candidates are required to have a full clean driving licence.
Reporting Structure: The Carer will liaise regularly with the House Manager and the Prioress to ensure cohesion and clarity in terms of planning and delivery of work schedule.
Hours: 20-25 hours per week with availability to work at weekend. Carers are required to clock in and out when on duty.
The Carer’s responsibility will be to;
Perform a brief health check on a daily basis for the Sisters requiring care.
Assist Sisters with personal care, including hygiene, dressing, change of bed linen when required, bed-making and tidying rooms when necessary.
Bring Sisters to GP/Hospital appointments when required.
Assist during meal times when necessary in the dining room or if a Sister is required to stay in bed, help serve and supervise.
Distribute morning, midday and evening medications as prescribed.
Ensure safety of Sisters in their rooms and also around the house, accompanying the Sisters when necessary
Attend to the laundry of Sisters if required (designated by Manager, Prioress or her delegate who may require help). Tending to a Sister’s laundry if she is in hospital
Preparation of Sisters’ evening meal and tidying of kitchen thereafter.
When weather permits, accompany Sisters on short walks to get fresh air and exercise.
Answer the door and telephone when required.
Attending to visiting guests who may require care.
Safety for all Sisters is a priority in the Convent, so alert the person in charge should any safety issues arise, particularly in bathrooms and bedrooms.
Recording of information required in the care of Sisters in the daily record book.
Responsible for keeping Carers’ store room and medical stores tidy. Inform the Manager/Prioress when stocks are running low.
At the end of your shift, again perform a health check and ensure Sisters are comfortable and have everything they need for the night.
Inform House Manager or Prioress should there be any concerns regarding any of the Sisters at the end of your shift.
